New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC)
The New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC), a non-profit industry organization, envisions a future where all homes and buildings in Aotearoa are green and sustainable, fostering healthier and happier communities. We achieve this by:
Promoting Sustainable Building Benefits: Advocating for sustainable building practices by creating a common language and showcasing the inherent value they bring.
Building Sector Support and Education: Assisting the property and construction sector in acquiring the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver a sustainable built environment.
Motivating and Rewarding Sustainability: Encouraging and recognizing the sustainable development and operation of buildings throughout New Zealand.
Established in July 2005, NZGBC joined the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) in 2006, aligning with the global movement toward sustainability in the property industry and built environment. The WorldGBC, an international non-profit organization, fosters this global shift, with Green Building Councils established in various countries.
As a proactive driver of sustainability in New Zealand, NZGBC takes responsibility for its own greenhouse gas emissions. We are dedicated to working towards a low-carbon operation and lifestyle, actively contributing to national carbon reduction targets.
The Green roofing store
The Roofing Store is actively supporting sustainability research at the University of Waikato, with the goal of delivering more environmentally friendly products to the New Zealand housing market. Additionally, we are sponsoring PhD students at the University of Auckland for comprehensive product testing and the development of sustainable roofing solutions. Our ambition is to emerge as the leading sustainable roofing business in New Zealand by 2025. By reducing greenhouse gas emissions associated with the manufacturing of cold-formed steel products and minimizing operational energy in buildings, we aspire to contribute significantly to the Net Zero Carbon goal set by the New Zealand Government.
